The Knoxville community has consistently given Colby’s Photography awards such as the Knoxville News Sentinel’s Reader’s Choice Award for Best Knoxville Photographer (for the last four years in a row) as well as Cityview magazine’s Best of the Best Knoxville Photographer for the last five years. Knoxville’s advertising community has also recognized him with Silver as well as Gold ADDYs awards and the Big Wig award (for the last three years in a row) for his exceptional commercial photography.
Colby has also been recognized by his professional peers throughout the photographic industry. He won the International Top Ten Commercial Photographer at the International Photographic Competition sponsored by Professional Photographers of America, as well as Photographer of the Year by both Tennessee’s Professional Photographers Association (TNPPA) and Professional Photographers of East Tennessee (PPETN). Throughout his career, he has received both the Kodak Gallery Award and the Fuji Award for Excellence. He has also received the Top Ten Professional Photographers award multiple times from TNPPA. The president of the largest professional photographers trade organization awarded him the Craftsman Degree which he earned in 2014.

As a Knoxville photographer, Colby is very active in promoting professional as well as enthusiast photography throughout the Southeast. He has held every board position within the Professional Photographers of East Tennessee, and he is very active at the state level of the photography trade industry. In addition, he taught photography at the University of Tennessee’s Photography Certificate Program for many years, covering such topics as food photography, architectural photography, portrait retouching, posing and subject interaction, as well as many others. He has earned an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) designation from the makers of Photoshop and is often invited to beta test their certification exams.
